My first camera was a Kodak Brownie...the one that used 120 B/W negative film, and you had to hold your breath and stand still while you clicked the shutter in order to have the photograph stay in focus!!! Our darkroom lacked a timer so my father taught me very accurate counting methods for developing and enlarging..."one one-thousand, two one-thousand," etc.... there might have been a Mississippi lost in there too. The "strobe" had flash bulbs you scratched on rough surfaces before use to guarantee a success in one out of four shots. My family, butter dripping corn on the cob in hand, posed until the 12th scratched bulb finally worked.
I moved to Vermont thirty years ago in the throes of the hippies looking
for an alternative way to live. While I went into business as a freelance
photographer, I slept in an unheated attic under an electric blanket,
and my dog wore my down vest at night. My hair is shorter now, and I
have an inside bathroom with real running water!!!...but I still enjoy
searching for the architecture and the people who are unique Today I love to style rooms and mix strobe, available and tungsten lights to get a photo that enhances the room. Fresh flowers and raspberries are my favorite props....along with my dog...Say hello to Lady Dickens. I work alone, with assistants, with art directors, with clients, with homeowners, publishers, contractors, architects...anyone. Even if they've never held a camera, everyone has something to contribute to the teamwork! I applaud the process of discovering new ways to do things. In architecture and interior design, I love the hot new halogen lights and ideas such as slate roofs made out of used baby diapers and bathroom tile made from broken windshields. The creative art of problem solving is an addiction for me. I cannot get enough of it...so...send me your unsolvable problems to shoot. Email is the best way to communicate, and having humor in life is a must!
